Study of SLA Printing Parameters Affecting the Dimensional Accuracy of the Pattern and Casting in Rapid Investment Casting

Dimensional accuracy and geometric characteristics of the manufactured parts bear significant importance in product assembly. In Rapid Investment Casting, these can be affected by printing parameters Additive Manufacturing method used pattern production process. Stereolithography is one important AM techniques mostly exploited RIC due to its accuracy, smooth surface, precision. However, effect SLA on dimensional have not been studied thoroughly. This study considers an experimental approach such as layer thickness, build angle, support structure density, touchpoint size geometrical Castable Wax printed patterns Al cast parts. Taguchi’s Design Experiment was define number runs. SolidCast simulation design orientation casting feeder achieve directional solidification. Coordinate Measuring Machine measurements deviations were analyzed using “Smaller-the-better” scheme two-step optimization Taguchi experiments. Build angle Layer thickness identified first second most impactful parameters, respectively, affecting both parts, with optimal values 0 deg 0.25 μm, respectively. Both had twice many geometry dimensions. The sphere roundness angularity found least accurate characteristics, dimensions Z direction more than X-Y directions, showing smallest for height large length, width, diameter hole.
